I will admit that with most of the seemingly bad publicity of Kesha floating around after her debut in late 2009, I was pretty put off of thinking anything was worthwhile of her music. Add in a few paparazzi beach photos and the humorous nature of DJs making fun of how easy it is to create a “Kesha” persona and I had mentally taken a pass on her music. Bummer than I actually came across a few mixes of Tik Tok and Your Love Is My Drug and actually started liking a few of her songs. Of course, I’ll save the similarity of music styles with Katy Perry for another post…

While a few of Kesha’s tracks are catchy in their own right – it was this specific remix from Dave Aude that turned Kesha’s “Your Love Is My Drug” selection into something I could listen to a few more times. In a slight change of chord progressions and a bit of synth overload – the mixture of efforts came out to be a pretty good track in it’s own right.

Can’t seem to go wrong with pop songs with the use of brass bands and piano, right? Today’s selection has been floating in my head (and much to my wife’s ears as well) for the last few weeks. It comes from Sara Bareilles as her second album’s first single King Of Anything.

For her sophomore release, it should be no surprise that Sara ends up in my earworm section a second time as well. First time around back in March of 2008 went pretty well for her. After listening to the rest of her Kaleidoscope Heart album I can say that there are more good selections to come.

So without additional hesitation, a quick song sample for you…

There’s been a rash of bubblegum pop songs floating through my Earworm efforts lately. This time around is really no different but I am back to my British girl band issues. Back last year I stumbled upon The Saturdays “Issues” single off their first album and really noticed that it was only tolerable as a remix. While their sophomore follow-up effort “Ego” doesn’t suffer from this issue, I did find the Almighty Radio Edit a bit more fun to enjoy. (I couldn’t just put both song samples up here, now could I?)

So there’s a little bit of eye candy… It helps make up for the fact that there’s five girls standing around pouting while the cameras pan around the music video. Maybe they took some of my lessons learned from my Idols Live “How-To” post. No matter, this is a good song that I’ve enjoyed playing over and over a few times… It wasn’t even until today that I looked up their video to see if all of them were singing!

So now we’ve had some visual efforts, let’s get to the audio sample:

During these Christmas days – I should actually be putting up some new and exciting Christmas songs… But not today (we’ll see if there’s an updated Top 10 list hovering around somewhere…) Today is about a Swedish Pop singer named Emilia de Poret.

This particular song, “On Fire” struck me pretty quickly but it was one of her remixes that got me hooked… Kind of a cross between Yaz and Sonique… However – after a few more listens to try and find a 30-second sample, I really enjoyed the original version a bit more than these remixes… I’ll probably spend a little more time to try and find some better remixes – but for now, I’ll leave you with this bit…

Once again I’ve been a bit amiss on keeping up with my song samples… However – this song from Jennifer Paige popped onto my desktop a few weeks ago and has managed to wind itself around my eardrum for the last few days.

You may remember Jennifer Paige from the 1998 hit “Crush” and I will admit that some of the later remixes have made it into my own favorites list. However – that was more than 10 years ago and while I enjoyed a few tracks off her “Positively Somewhere” album – even that was 2002.

So now comes out this new single that was released as part of Jennifer’s deluxe edition of her album “Best Kept Secret” which I will admit I haven’t even taken a listen to…

But in this case – this new song has some potential. I have the feeling that it’ll stick around for a little while as a decent Pop song – but I’m cautious on the questionable staying power. Nevertheless – take it around the block on your own…

And yes – no mention of Nick Carter… This isn’t about Backstreet Boys now is it? Besides – he doesn’t add much interest to this song anyway…
