Alesha Dixon – Radio (7th Heaven Remix)

Dave Schmid | December 13, 2010 | 4:32 PM

In order to move my post about Kelly Clarkson’s house being for sale, it’s time to get a new post up on Pulp Free… Not that I couldn’t take a ribbing from my friends about it… But you’d think I was in love with her or something by the way I was being harassed… No matter – a new update in my series of Earworm efforts comes your way with this new track from Alesha Dixon called “Radio“.

You may or may not be familiar with her… Not a lot of airtime has been used up in the States for Alesha Dixon but that’s pretty common with English Pop singers. I had actually listed one of her tracks a few years ago called “Breathe Slow” so there’s some staying power here so far. In this particular instance I came across the remix first and then hunted around for the original. Glad I found the remix first… I quickly passed on the original as it’s mostly a half tempo version of this dance remix. It’s not that it’s bad per se – more similar to having a really good steak and then hitting White Castle a few hours later for a night cap (how’s that for a metaphor?)

In any case, this tune has been bumping around in my head for the last few weeks so it seemingly qualified to be listed up here as a qualified contender. Your thoughts?

(It has been noted that this song is pretty reminiscent of another track I have on here – Robyn’s Dancing On My Own track… Hmm… Pop Dance music does only use the same chord progressions, don’t they?)

Alexandra Burke – All Night Long (Jason Nevins Radio Edit)

Dave Schmid | July 5, 2010 | 8:05 PM

Since I’m already here, let’s see if I can’t get another Earworm selection up and out the door… This time we’ve have another X-Factor Alumni making an appearance… Alexandra Burke shares some space here with Leona Lewis but stands fairly on her own (winning a few years later).

All Night Long represents another selection of dance-happy tunes that simply feels good to listen to. It’s hard to gauge home much control or variety Alexandra may have in comparison to Leona – but in simply choosing songs that are stuck in my head, the long-term success of an artist has little to do with making it only my transient play list.

So feel free to enjoy this song sample:

Robyn – Dancing On My Own (Buzz Junkies Radio Edit)

Dave Schmid | July 5, 2010 | 7:41 PM

This Earworm selection is from one of my early 90′s favorite pop stars with tracks like “Show Me Love” and “Do You Know (What It Takes)“. While Robyn has had a few albums in between, I have to say that they didn’t really resonate much with me… However, this time around I’ve found myself listening over and over to her track “Dancing On My Own“.

Thankfully even the original mix kept me interested but I chose one of the remixes as my selection. Since I’m actually behind on getting some of the these posts up and the video is actually a little scary (at 32 Robyn isn’t quite the same as I remember her…) I’m going to just leave here the sample. Hope there’s a few more good cuts on her new CD.

Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina – Stereo Love (Digital Dog Club Mix)

Dave Schmid | May 14, 2010 | 10:33 PM

Once again I’ve found myself getting behind on a few of my Earworm selections. I’m down at least 4 or 5 so I expect I get some of these out of my system soon enough. I did actually go back and listen to these selections and sure enough, they’re still some of the tracks in my “current” listening playlist.

First up in a track from Edward Maya entitled “Stereo Love” that includes VIka Jigulina. As seems to be the routine way that I’m drawn to Eurodance tunes, this one is no different. Edward being a Romanian musician and DJ, this first time out as an artist seems to have done pretty well for itself hitting number 1 on a few charts. Yet… strangely – no real mention of any US charts.

I actually like the original mix as well – mostly for the accordion refrain lifted from Bayatılar – but this remix won out for the more interesting base line and its bit less repetitive nature… Little did I know that Edward was trying to sneak credit for this to “anonymous”… But a good effort nevertheless.

So feel free to take a few seconds to grab a sample…

Or try to get through a less than original “DJ walking around the streets” video…

John Kano – I’m Done With The Pain (Featuring Sarah Mattea) (Bellatrax Radio Edit)

Dave Schmid | February 15, 2009 | 3:00 PM

John Kano - I'm Done With The Pain (Featuring Sarah Mattea) (Bellatrax Radio Edit)I’ve been listening to XM Radio since 2005… Mostly since it came with my Acura TL and for the last 3 years, I’ve renewed in in my RL as well. Especially helpful considering that for the last four years I’ve been able to use the “I want the $77 for 12 month deal” to keep its costs inline. However, most of the time I’m listening to MP3 CDs so XM is only really helpful for longer road trips with my wife (she loves the 70′s station) and before XM pulled the plug on E!

The crux of this story is more related to a few weeks ago while I was flipping around on my 12 XM presets. I hit on BPM long enough to grab a listen to “I’m Done With The Pain” and was mesmerized by the bass line. Love the sine-wave bass lines.

So while finding anything on John Kano proved minimal, at least there’s a somewhat cheesy video of this song on YouTube:

Along with my own song sample:

Granted – more focused on Sarah Mattea than John Kano (heck – even the image on here is of Sarah!) – hopefully you’ll feel the need to add this track to your collection…
