Robyn – Dancing On My Own (Buzz Junkies Radio Edit)

Dave Schmid | July 5, 2010 | 7:41 PM

This Earworm selection is from one of my early 90′s favorite pop stars with tracks like “Show Me Love” and “Do You Know (What It Takes)“. While Robyn has had a few albums in between, I have to say that they didn’t really resonate much with me… However, this time around I’ve found myself listening over and over to her track “Dancing On My Own“.

Thankfully even the original mix kept me interested but I chose one of the remixes as my selection. Since I’m actually behind on getting some of the these posts up and the video is actually a little scary (at 32 Robyn isn’t quite the same as I remember her…) I’m going to just leave here the sample. Hope there’s a few more good cuts on her new CD.

Emilia De Poret – On Fire

Dave Schmid | December 14, 2009 | 9:33 PM

During these Christmas days – I should actually be putting up some new and exciting Christmas songs… But not today (we’ll see if there’s an updated Top 10 list hovering around somewhere…) Today is about a Swedish Pop singer named Emilia de Poret.

Emilia De Poret - On Fire

This particular song, “On Fire” struck me pretty quickly but it was one of her remixes that got me hooked… Kind of a cross between Yaz and Sonique… However – after a few more listens to try and find a 30-second sample, I really enjoyed the original version a bit more than these remixes… I’ll probably spend a little more time to try and find some better remixes – but for now, I’ll leave you with this bit…

And a music video for your viewing delight…

Jennifer Paige – Beautiful Lie (Featuring Nick Carter) (Extended Mix)

Dave Schmid | December 5, 2009 | 9:50 PM

Once again I’ve been a bit amiss on keeping up with my song samples… However – this song from Jennifer Paige popped onto my desktop a few weeks ago and has managed to wind itself around my eardrum for the last few days.

You may remember Jennifer Paige from the 1998 hit “Crush” and I will admit that some of the later remixes have made it into my own favorites list. However – that was more than 10 years ago and while I enjoyed a few tracks off her “Positively Somewhere” album – even that was 2002.

Jennifer Paige - Beautiful Lie (Featuring Nick Carter) (Extended Mix)

So now comes out this new single that was released as part of Jennifer’s deluxe edition of her album “Best Kept Secret” which I will admit I haven’t even taken a listen to…

But in this case – this new song has some potential. I have the feeling that it’ll stick around for a little while as a decent Pop song – but I’m cautious on the questionable staying power. Nevertheless – take it around the block on your own…

And yes – no mention of Nick Carter… This isn’t about Backstreet Boys now is it? Besides – he doesn’t add much interest to this song anyway…

Pink – Please Don’t Leave Me (Digital Dog Club Mix)

Dave Schmid | May 16, 2009 | 11:04 PM

A little more pop music… But don’t let Pink hear about me calling this music pop instead of rock because she’d probably kick my… well you know. Here’s another more recent single release from her Funhouse album called Please Don’t Leave Me. I will say that I cringe a bit when I hear the original album version on the radio or even when I stumble upon it flipping through my music collection. It seems sparse and unfinished when she’s singing some of the song flourishes… Something similar to when I hear a song transition to another key at the end of the chorus just for the sake of changing keys.

Pink - Please Don't Leave Me (Digital Dog Club Mix)

In any case – this Digital Dog remix is what’s been keeping my attention (as you’ve probably already known that about remixes.) Digital Dog (Steve Cornish and Nick Mace) have had a few top dance tracks to keep them busy (including one of my previous Earworm listing of Saturday’s “Issues” selection.) So skip the original and go with this remix sample:

So it has to be possibly Pink’s raspy voice, continued presence in music, and the recent “E! True Hollywood Story” that gave me a bit more reason to listen in to what Alecia Moore has to sing about… And she just kicks… well – you know! (Even better when you learn how she got her nickname Pink… It’s not because of her hair…)

Lady GaGa – Poker Face (Glam As You Radio Mix)

Dave Schmid | April 29, 2009 | 10:10 PM

I didn’t want to like this song. Really. I saw Lady GaGa popping up on a few of my Top 40 lists and skipped passed it during my 5 second listen test. It just so happens that I heard the chorus of this song on the radio a few days while driving to the airport (GASP!! The RADIO!!) and I’ve been hooked with finding a way to get it out of my head ever since.

Lady GaGa - Poker Face (Glam As You Radio Mix)

Tonight I even spent a few minutes finding remixes and videos to see what she’s all about:

Stefani Germanotta (born March 1986 in New York, U.S.A.), also known by her stage name Lady Gaga, is an American singer-songwriter dance-pop, electronica musician signed to Interscope Records. Born into a Italian-American family and growing up in Manhattan’s Lower East side Germanotta attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart School. Having learned piano by ear at the age of four, Germanotta went on to write her first piano ballad at thirteen and began performing at open mic nights by the age of fourteen. At the age of seventeen she gained early admission to the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, where she studied music. By age twenty she began writing songs for Interscope Records artists, such as the Pussycat Dolls, also she recently declared that she wrote two songs for the upcoming Britney Spears album.

Hey… I can’t complain with music chops like that… Especially knowing my penchant for bubblegum pop songs. I’ll eventually get a few minutes to pass through her debut album, The Fame, to see if there are any other songs to my liking. I mean, now with Poker Face number one on quite a few charts – I’m sure I’m behind the curve onĀ  this… (I really do need to start getting updates online sooner rather than later!)

So enjoy a bit of your own song sample here:

Or with the obligatory “Official HQ Video“…
